All About the Benjamins
Bruce and I have been wrangling the living together thing. We are doing very well. We compliment each other in many ways, mostly he calls me pretty and I call him smart. We are so complimentary.
The one thing that has come to light is the fact that I never have cash on me. I have my card that pulls directly from my checking account and a little bit of credit available. I have long been lectured regarding the need for cash on had at all times. My parents would lament the fact that I would be driving cross-state and have no cash for gas or tolls. Little known fact: you can write a check for the Mass Pike tolls and you can be billed for the Rhode Island- Newport Bridge toll.
I have charged $1.49 for a soda (remember the Dr. Pepper from Sunday?) and $.64 for two stamps. I’m not proud.
I resolved that I will start carrying $40 with me at all times. Eventually I will make good on that resolution, but I still am left wondering, why, after all this time, and all the endless lectures, do I still have such a strong reaction toward carrying a little cash?

I never carry cash, either, and I tried to stick to the plan you have, but I would spend the cash and then go back to not having cash. Do people who “always carry cash” replace that cash every time they spend it? If so, I would just continue to use my bank card for everything so I would not have to replace the cash, which totally defeats the purpose.
I do wish I was better about it, because I went through the hurricane evacuation here and once a storm hits and the electricity is down or ATMs are out of money, you are outta luck even to buy a coke. (I’m still having trouble staying motivated, even a year later.)

See! I have the same questions. The whole replacement of funds seems like too much effort. Especially if I can whip out my card.
Having just moved, I’ve been alerted to the fact that I need an Earthquake Preparedness Kit with water and canned goods. I think that placing some emergency cash with other important papers, passport and birth certificate etc., is probably the way I am going to go about it all.
Of course if the big one hits and I’m not at home, I’ll be shit out of luck. Oh well.

I always have cash on hand, not because I plan it that way, I just never find anything to spend it on. Call me picky.

I get caught without cash all the time. Thankfully, places here take credit or EPS (bank card)...until I encountered one such place that took neither…but would take a CHEQUE?!?! WTF?!??!

That place I went to where you can buy in bulk only takes one specific credit card, I think Discover, and a check. I think the point is that the company wants people to use cash.
Why is it that my computer refuses to remember me? I have to keep typing my own information into my own blog. WTF?
